India to extend support, aims to evaluate the damage in Beirut explosion

In accordance with the Lebanese officials, blasts happened due to the inappropriate storage of 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate.

On Thursday, India stated that it has sought an evaluation from Lebanon on the destruction because of the powerful blast that happened in Beirut in order to determine the nature of support that can be extended.

Anurag Srivatsava, MEA spokesperson informed at the weekly media meeting that “We have sought an assessment of damage from Lebanon. On its basis, we will decide the nature of assistance that we will extend to them. There have been no reported casualties among Indians, only 5 minor injuries.” 

On Tuesday, about 140 people have been dead and more than 5,000 people were injured in the blast that rocked Lebanon’s capital Beirut.

As per the Lebanese officials, the explosion happened due to the improper storage of 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate.

Marwan Abboud, the city’s governor stated that this explosion has destroyed half of Beirut’s buildings and nearly 300,000 people have become homeless.
